My Ideal House

2nd July 2018

The successful auction of My Ideal House at the weekend demonstrated the importance of design excellence, quality construction and sustainability in people’s buying decisions.

Together with our project partners, Australian House & Garden magazine, Mirvac set out to broaden the conversation around the design of homes in our fastest-growing suburbs. We invited architects and designers around the country to submit designs for My Ideal House, a sustainable, flexible and future-proof home suited to the needs of the modern family.

Madeleine Blanchfield’s winning design won over the ultimate judges at auction with the new owner paying $950,000 to secure a home that was so appealing she changed her home search from the north shore to the south west.

More than 500 people visited My Ideal House at our CREST masterplanned community in the south-west Sydney suburb of Gledswood Hills, during its four-week auction campaign, some with a view to buy but many others who were simply interested in the design and sustainability aspects of the home.

Before the auction began I had great pleasure in handing over a $50,000 cheque to Peter Cleave and Jill Summers from the Salvation Army, continuing our association with an organisation that makes an invaluable community contribution assisting the homeless.

I have no doubt that the design and sustainability initiatives incorporated into My Ideal House will influence future homes around the country. In fact some of these elements have already found their way into new designs in our Homes by Mirvac portfolio.

The goals of My Ideal House made the decision to partner with Australian House & Garden an easy one, aligning with our belief that design holds the key to healthier, happier communities that are kinder to the environment.

It also gave us the opportunity to look at what we do with fresh eyes and to challenge our own practices. Innovation requires the sharing of knowledge and stepping outside the familiar. Whether our insights come from customer feedback or from partnerships such as My Ideal House, the constant striving to find new ways to design and build better is what has kept Mirvac at the forefront of the industry for 45 years.
