THE VIBRANT INNER-CITY Brisbane precinct of Newstead is the location of Mirvac’s Unison development.

What was the brief? It was to provide the foundation for a vibrant and sustainable residential community, and so Unison’s design is anchored in the vast communal recreation space. The Newstead waterfront has riverside bike paths, public parkland and magnificent tree-lined streets. Unison encapsulates this lifestyle by incorporating large balconies as an extension of indoor living spaces, and private outdoor amenities that echo the lush surrounds. Belle style director-at-large Steve Cordony selected the furniture and accessories and says: “I was thrilled to style an apartment in Unison, and develop an interior that appeals to a range of buyers, delivering contemporary urban design inspired by the Brisbane River backdrop.” 

What were the challenges of the space and how did you resolve them? The apartment floorplans are quite long, so it was imperative to create cohesion between rooms. We achieved this with the colour palette and styling elements. 

Describe the interior? Urban and contemporary, designed to suit a modern Australian lifestyle. We combined velvets, leathers and linens with glamorous accents of brass and marble.  

What are some favourite design elements? The artwork from Edwina Corlette Gallery perfectly mirrors the river views, with muted tones of green, blue and pink complemented by earthy neutrals. The furniture also reflects the colours of the river and leafy surrounds, such as the navy velvet Jardan sofa which ‘pops’ against a neutral base palette. Finishes in timber, marble and brass suit the apartment’s style. 

How do you envisage the future owners will use the space? The apartment is a generous size, so the owner will be able to make the most of an urban lifestyle and enjoy entertaining in the open plan living area and balcony with river views.
