Celebrating the Success of Our Inaugural Supplier Development Program

Over the past year, four Mirvac’s mentors have worked closely with a group of inspiring social enterprises, sharing insights to help them grow their businesses and get ready to work with large companies like Mirvac.

Highlights from the Program:

• Mirvac saw a 50% growth in the number of certified social enterprises in our supply chain

• Mentors saw real growth: All four Mirvac mentors agreed that their mentees became more capable of winning work with large buyers like Mirvac, thanks to the program.

• The participating organisations saw their procurement readiness levels increase by more than a quarter on average.
• They also saw their engagement increase with 18 new speaking opportunities and 38 targeted introductions to businesses converting to 5 new contracts.
  

The four enterprises involved in the program were:

1. YMCA ReBuild provides commercial construction services while helping young people who have been in contact with the justice system. Through job opportunities and training, they aim to reduce reoffending rates and help these young people reintegrate into the community as valuable members of society.
2. ReGround make a significant difference by collecting and repurposing waste, like coffee grounds and soft plastics. Their work helps businesses reduce their environmental footprint while supporting local gardens and creating a more sustainable future.
3. CommUnity Construction empowers refugees and asylum seekers by offering jobs in construction, such as tiling and painting. Their goal is to help people build new lives in Australia by giving them work experience and a path to stability.
   
4. Green Connect is focused on creating jobs for people facing barriers to employment, like refugees. They also work to reduce waste and grow sustainable food. Over the past year, they have employed more than 130 young people and former refugees, diverted 160 tonnes of waste from landfill, grown and distributed 55,000 kg of fresh produce.
   

Through this program, we not only helped social enterprises become revenue-ready but also gained invaluable insights from their innovative approaches, making the learning experience mutual and enriching for all involved.
