Gamechanger is a word you hear often from locals buying land to build a home at Everdene, Mulgoa, Mirvac’s new nature focused masterplanned community in Western Sydney. They are referring of course to Western Sydney International Airport, scheduled to open for cargo flights in July this year and passenger flights in the following months.
Whether it’s families thinking about the ease of jetting off on holidays, frequent flyers counting the hours saved by not driving to Mascot, or business owners and workers looking forward to an economic boost, the airport is changing lives and livelihoods in Sydney’s West.
The airport is one of a combination of factors that led Jessica and Tom Munro to stake their claim to a 450sqm lot at Everdene, Mulgoa where they plan to build their forever home when the land is registered later this year.
The couple live in Jordan Springs where they built their first home in 2018, when they were only in their early twenties and dating but knew with certainty it was the right thing to do. Just as they are now equally certain that the time and place is right to build a bigger, better home for themselves and two-year-old son Spencer.
Jessica invokes the word on everyone’s lips to explain her confidence in the future of Everdene, Mulgoa.
“The airport is going to be a gamechanger,” says Jessica. “In my husband’s previous job he travelled a lot and would get up at 4am to catch a 7am flight. Being a 12-minute drive from Everdene is going to make a big difference not just for the region but as a family when we go on holidays.”
Meeting the recreational needs of the 3,000 residents who will eventually call Everdene, Mulgoa home, 23 hectares are proposed to be developed or conserved for green space, incorporating a junior AFL/cricket and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, a nature play zone, water playground, walking tracks and barbecue and picnic areas.
Being able to build the house of their dreams while still in their 30s has not come without sacrifice. When their friends were enjoying a carefree existence, Jessica and Tom were working, skipping holidays and paying down their mortgage.
“We were in our early 20s and we had friends saying you are so young,” recalls Jessica. “Now we have the equity that we put into our first house and we’re in a position where we can build a bigger home here. We think this might be it for us. We’ve found our forever home.”
It’s not just the airport, but Everdene, Mulgoa that’s a gamechanger.
